Candy corn: 5 facts about the world's most hated candy

4022665969_b20a23ac16_o There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who think candy corn is vile and those who can't stop eating it. Which category do you fall into? I am one of those people who can't stop eating it. It always makes me feel so sick, but I just can't resist it. Now most people associate Candy corn with Halloween. But candy corn actually has it's own holiday October 30 is National Candy Corn Day. To celebrate this day and this divisive candy, here are five fun candy corn facts. 1. No one knows who invented it Hate candy corn? Unfortunately there is no one you can blame for inventing it! There is no record of when candy corn was first invented. All the proof we have is the story that has been passed down saying a man named George Renniger invented candy corn in the 1880s. 2. It's low cal Halloween candy is hard to resist. And it's easy to eat 20 of those mini chocolate bars in one sitting. Oops! The good thing is you can eat a bowl of candy corn and it's not that many calories. One piece only has 4 calories! 3. There is no corn in it Candy corn has the strangest texture. It's sort of like wax...delicious wax. But there is no wax in candy corn. And there's no corn in it either, just corn syrup. Corn syrup, water and sugar are the main ingredients in candy corn. Then marshmallow and fondant are mixed into the kettle. I'm not sure if it's concerning or comforting that the formula to make candy corn hasn't changed since the 1900s. 4. Candy corn has had many names Originally candy corn was called chicken feed. The shape of the candy is very reminiscent of chicken feed so it makes sense, though does not sound very appetizing. Then candy corn was called butter cream candies. But that did not go over well because there actually is no butter in candy corn. Butter is just one of those things you don't joke about! So the name was changed to candy corn in the 1950s. 5. There's a proper way to eat it Apparently eating candy corn by the handful isn't the correct way to eat it. Like Smarties, there is an order to eating candy corn. You start by nibbling away at the white part and work your way to the yellow top. Though really, it tastes the same no matter what way you eat it, so chow down!
