Recipe: 3 ways to make oatmeal delicious

Put some excitement back into your breakfast with these three new ways to enjoy oatmeal.

When it comes to healthy breakfast choices, we all know that oatmeal is a great way to start the day. Oatmeal is a whole grain powerhouse that can help to reduce bad cholesterol and control blood sugar. It also makes you feel full for a long time, which can help you control your food choices later in the day.

But while eating a hearty bowl of oatmeal every day for breakfast is really, really good for you, it can also get a little boring, so we’ve come up with a few ways to make your breakfast sing! Granted, some of these fun toppings definitely impact the nutritional value of that healthy bowl of oatmeal but hey – every once in a while, you deserve a treat, don’t you? Plus, in these adorable Le Creuset Mini Cocottes, these oatmeal creations are perfect for serving guests. Weekend brunch, anyone?

Oatmeal brulee

If you add brown sugar to your oatmeal anyway, try it this way for a fun twist. Mix two tablespoons of brown sugar with one teaspoon of hot water (add more as needed), to create a thick paste. Spread over oatmeal, smoothing out with the back of a spoon. Then place the oatmeal under the broiler for three to four minutes. Remove once the sugar starts to bubble. NOTE: Make sure to use broiler proof bowls and place them on a baking sheet before placing in the oven.

Oatmeal with coconut and bananas

No broiler required. Simply add 1/4 cup (more or less as desired) of toasted sweetened, shredded coconut to your oatmeal and top with a sliced banana.

If you’re staunchly in the camp that believes that peanut butter and chocolate is one of the best flavour combinations ever discovered, then you’ll love this sweet and delicious twist on oatmeal. And let’s be honest: It’s more dessert than breakfast! Mix one tablespoon of peanut butter into hot oatmeal and let it melt into the gooey goodness. Top with chocolate chips and serve hot!
