Erie Hat knitting pattern

Enjoy our free (and easy!) knitting pattern for this versatile and quick-to-knit project. It makes the perfect gift for anyone on your list.

The Erie Hat is a winter classic with its 1x1 ribbed pattern and watch-cap style. The simple unisex design can be worn in different ways to suit different tastes—you can roll up the brim or wear it slouchy. The pattern is easy to follow and suitable for all levels from beginners who want to try knitting in the round to advanced knitters looking for a quick project.

We designed the hat in our hardwearing  Superwash Merino yarn, so it can be thrown the washing machine and still look great for years to come.

Knitting Tips:
When you join your work to knit in the round be careful not to twist your stitches. After the first few rows, your work will lie flat and you won’t have any trouble. When you reach the crown shaping, don’t forget to switch to double pointed needles. Alternatively, some knitters like to use the magic loop method for crown shaping.

Materials:
- 1 skein of Americo Superwash Merino (100% Merino Wool, 100 g/218 yards /200 m)
- 4mm (US 6) 16-inch circular needles
- Set of 4mm (US 6) DPNs
- 1 stitch marker
- Yarn needle or crochet hook

Note about the yarn: Superwash Merino is available through Americo Original online. You can substitute for other DK-weight yarns like Americo’s Mezcla de Lujo, Alpaca Matizada or any DK weight in your stash.

One Size - 22 inches (56 cm) in diameter when stretched, 10.5 inches (27 cm) in height
