At first glance, yesterday’s outfit for the Duchess of Cambridge was a pretty standard ‘sporty event’ one: skinny jeans, practical trainer, some kind of event-related fleece. 

In fact, we thought this was a story about how we should all get polos personalised with our own honorific titles. 

And then we got a closer look at Kate’s hair…and the shocking accessory that was pinning back her usual half-up/half-down.

Yes: Those are butterfly clips. Sure, not the same sparkly pink ones you wore to your first dance in 1998, but a form of that classic 90s accessory nonetheless. 

What’s next, Kate? A tattoo-look choker or arm band? A Furby in place of a nude clutch?
