Victoria Beckham on her debut makeup collection with Estée Lauder
Victoria Beckham tells us about her new collection in her own words.

“I’ve been collecting makeup for the past 15 years, so I was excited when Estée Lauder asked if I would work with them. For me, it’s about developing something I want for myself, whether it’s clothes, makeup, a handbag or sunglasses. I’m not interested in copying what anybody else is doing or jumping on anybody else’s bandwagon. It’s about creating something I can’t find anywhere else.
“When making the collection, I told Sarah Creal, our product developer: ‘I fly from London to L.A., I get off the plane and there are tons of paparazzi. I want some- thing hydrating and moisturizing—a primer that brightens and really makes me look good after an 11-hour flight.’ So we developed Morning Aura, which is the most amazing product I have ever owned because it does exactly that. It instantly illuminates, and you get this beautiful glow.
“For my first meeting with Estée Lauder, I had a dining- room table full of makeup and colours that I’d mixed myself and things I like that have been discontinued or I wanted to tweak because the tone wasn’t quite right. I’m a bit of an anorak [Brit slang for a person with a nerd-level obsession with something] when it comes to makeup. [Laughs] I have such a specific eye and point of view; I know what I like.
“The collection has four looks, each one based on a city I love: Los Angeles, Paris, New York and London. I’m from London, I’m very proud to be English, and I would say that that look—the sparkly, smudgy-black, slightly-sweaty- looking eye and a nude lip—is one that I wear a lot. It’s a little bit rock ’n’ roll; it’s quite cool.
“I’m tough on myself, and I’m ambitious. I listen to the advice of people around me, but, ultimately, I go with my gut instinct. I probably don’t celebrate as much as I should. I had a great day yesterday [at the launch in London] and then I went home. I walked in the front door, and before I even had a chance to say ‘Hey, this is great! Let’s have some champagne,’ someone had to do their homework, someone needed to get in the bath! There are always so many things going on that I don’t have the luxury to sit back and say ‘Wow.’ But every now and then, I do. I feel very lucky; I am a very happy person, and I say thank you every day. I don’t take anything for granted.
“My daughter, Harper, loves delving into my makeup bag. And she wears my shoes already! Obviously they are very big, but she has been able to run in Alaïa platforms for a while now. [Laughs] I’m very proud.”
